Yeah, just like any calcium carbonate secreting organism, the "shell" grows alongside the actual organism. In a reef tank each coral would grow independently at their own rates, but most likely...

Aquaclear has some great HOB filters which are primarily outside if the tank, the only thing inside being the intake tube. I don't think for 10 gallons that a canister would be needed, however if you...

That is a fantastic idea! My current feeding schedule is 08:00, 15:00, and 20:00. This gives me an excuse to get my old 55 back in operating condition. As for the 30g I am really liking the idea of...

Re: Filter options for a 30g

I don't think I am over feeding, but will keep a close eye on that. Maybe I just have to buy a new HOB and not use one from the basement :P which species do you recommend I move? I was thinking of...

Re: Filter options for a 30g

As a matter of fact, yes there is a large piece in the tank. What do you recommend I do with it?

My nitrate levels are around 40ppm and ammonia is a bit above normal, and ph is 7.6.

Re: Filter options for a 30g

I apologize, but I have no idea what the rating for the HOB is, I just had an extra one lying around so I popped it on the tank. The UGF is rated for the tank size. The tank has an amber tint...

    Filter options for a 30g

Hey fellow aquarists I currently am running an HOB and a UGF filter on my 30 gallon, both of them are just not getting the job done well enough. My question here is there such a difference in a DIY...

    Re: DIY pond project.

Ok, so the pond is going to be about 1500 gallons, but is going to trickle down into a river about an inch deep. The distance it would have to push water will be about 70 feet including incline. I...

    Re: DIY pond project.

He guys, last question for a while. Do you recommend one 1900gph pump for the pond and waterfall or two 1000 gph pumps? The overall gallonage should be right around 1500.

What's wrong with a little green algae? It's not like natural bodies of water are sparkly clean :P
  19. Re: Brown algea on plants are driving me crazy!

Do you know of there has been a spike of boron in the water supply? My guess is an above normal amount of silicates triggered diatomal growth.
