    pure ammonia?

Just found some ACE Ammonia - Janitorial Strength from ACE Hardware.
Is this pure ammonia. I remember people saying ACE was one place I
could find it, and that's all they had. When shaken, the...

Thanks, KevinVA. I tested the tap water (treated) and air-conditioner's condensate separately, and found the tap water had 0.50 ppm ammonia, which I think I can deal with. The condensate water, which...

That's correct, I did not add any ammonia at all. Just thought I'd do all tests as a base line and got 3 ppm ammonia on the API master kit. Nitrites and nitrates did test 0. There's no fish, just...

new tank trying to cycle (cont.)

Sorry, should have added that in the 5-6 days since I thought I was cycling the ammonia test just stayed at about 3.0 and never went up or down. Also I never got any nitrite or nitrate at all.

    muratic acid?

My tap water tests at pH = 8.4 with moderate KH and GH. Most of the fish
I'm interested in are small schooling fish that like somewhat soft and acidic
water. Would using muratic acid to bring the...

    GH, KH, and pH confusion

I'd like to pose a what-if question about water chemistry. I've been all over
the interwebs and found a lot of discussion that starts with "how can I change
my pH," and ends with "well, you'll...

    substrate with "hills"

    I just got a new 135 gallon tank, dimensions are 48" x 24" x 27" high. I've
been doing a lot of research and will do the fishless cycling after putting
down the substrate. Since I have a lot of...

    Hello from the DFW area

I'm new to fishkeeping on the scale I'm gonna attempt. I did have
a 10 gal tank when I was a kid with guppies, mollies & swordtails etc.
But when my 135 gal tank arrived yesterday, I realized I'm a...
