I'm looking for a good scavenger for my 55g to help clean up after my messy eaters. The inhabitants of the tank can be seen in my signature. The fish(s) needs to be 6" or less adult size, and I'd...
I've been doing the water changes when the levels are high but my nitrites seem unstable, When I do a change to lower the nitrites I get a lower nitrate level but my amonia seems to spike, then when...
The fish were added over the course of about a month, a couple at a time.
I have about 15" of fish at their current size in a 55g tank...
I think I know the cause of the original spike, the issue is that it won't go away if that makes sense. The water changes are...
I just tested my tap water and all levels are 0.
I've been feed once daily unless nitrates are at 0, in which case I don't feed. I usually only feed one group of fish per day, so a small amount of flakes for the danios or 2 sinking shrimp pellets...
Yeah I have an LFS nearby.
It doesn't seem like this can resolve if every water change ends up resulting in the nitrites being removed or nearly gone and an amonia spike after a couple of days......
My tank has been cycling for about two weeks. Before this had occurred the tank had gone through a full cycle and had normal levels (0ppm amonia, 0ppm nitrites, <15ppm nitrates) for about three weeks...
I did the water change and I think something went bad.
Before the water change levels were a little over .25 ppm amonia, ~.37 ppm nitrites (somewhere between .5 and .25), and ~7.5 ppm nitrates.
The tank is 55g.
I've removed the carbon, and zeolite.
Currently I have in this order in the XP3:
2x 20 ppi foam
2x 30 ppi foam
2x box of bio stars
1x Amonia-Zorb (is this benificial?)
1x bio zorb (activated carbon mix)
1x fine foam

The beta and shark checked each other out pretty good when I first added them, since they seem to have established their own areas in the tank, the shark in his cave in one corner on the bottom, and...

The rainbow shark currently lurking in a cave most of the time. The cave is large enough for its adult size (~3" now). It'll give chase to the corys and danios once in a while when they near the cave...

The tank currently contains:
1 Crowntail Betta
1 Rainbow Shark
1 Bristlenose Cat
3 Long Fin Zebra Danios
110w of light
78 degree water
One of the original Danios, bigger than the rest , is really feisty over the food, I'm guessing this may be the suspect, or maybe one of the new Danios, as they got into the feeding frenzy as soon as...
One of my Zebra Danios seems to have gotten injured. He's missing about 2/3 of his bottom lip, from left to right, with a large flap of meaty lip hanging off of one side. So much is missing he is...
Thanks so much for your help! I've added 2 more Danios and a Small Rainbow Shark (I have a Roman Coliseum decoration with a large cave in the bottom that he has already claimed). Iíll wait a week or...
I was hoping the bio spira would speed it up. I also don't mind being patient about adding a bunch of fish.
5x Zebra Danio
5x small - medium Live plants
2x Air stone at full pressure
1x treatment of bio spira
1x treatment of cycle
Temp 76 degrees steady
60 gallon tetra filter (I forgot the...
