Thanks. That's what I was sort of expecting. I'll check on her this morning, and if she's still pine-coned (as in: it isn't just constipation), I'll euthanize.
Who knows what's wrong. I mean, she...
I have ONE platy in a 40-gallon tank of about 20 fish that has dropsy. The water is hard, but it's the same water they've been living in for about a year or so. Does anyone know what might cause it?...
Ain't that the truth? And even the babies!!! They like to hold onto their poopstrings, too!
I think it's one of the characteristics of platies.

Okay, I tested the other thank this morning, and ammonia was 1, nitrAte 10, nitrIte 1...
I think with some prime in the tank, that ought to be okay for some of the fish. Hate to break up the...

Well, my half-cycled 10g hex is reading pretty well, right now. I think 'cause I used the biofilter from my previous tank.
I think tomorrow I'm going to just start over with the snail tank.

and I *HAD* a home for them before the whole snail/algae fiasco. -_-

Just kidding about the pickle part.
Okay, so here's the situation:
I will be receiving a batch of pearl danios tomorrow, and I've got tank issues. Remember the tank with tons and tons of...
Well, here's the good part.
At least I know now that next time I cycle a tank, I won't have to ADD ammonia... just add water. -_-
So get prime? I was looking at that.
At this point, I'll do whatever it takes. I don't want to have to buy RO water every time I do a water change.
Or I could get a brita pitcher and see if...
Okay. Just got back from lfs. Oh, yeah, start at the beginning...
Last week, I had what I thought were ammonia problems. New test kit - rated my ammonia at 4 ppm. Seemed unbelievable since I had...
Yeah, I'm always afraid that I'll come home from work one day or wake up in the morning, and all of my danios have buried themselves to death.
I love these little fishes, but God Bless, they're...
No, but I had one bury himself to death once. -_-
For some reason Zebras sometimes think they're burrowers and can get out of any space they get themselves into.
So, I had one that burrowed...
YAY! They're getting their MM markings!
I'm so proud. it looks like I have about 10-12 survivors and they're getting the little black dots on their tails!!
All of them seem pretty healthy. I'm...
They're fighing over a shell.
That's right, you heard me. Over a SHELL!
I have this oyster shell in my comm. tank, and there are two goldens plus two zebras who are all trying to burrow...
You know, I don't use as many chemicals as you're using when I set up my tanks, so I don't know if any of them have any effect on what's going on.
I just treat the water with aquasafe, put it in...
I just put new fish in my QT for a few days and observe them. Now, my QT is salted with aquarium salt, so that any new bacteria and fungus won't grow in there inbetween fish.
But I don't just...
Alright. It's happened to some of you guys out there, I just KNOW it!!!
I buy a few plants from the lfs, and end up with a stowaway or two or twenty or two-thousand!!!
At first, I saw...
Wow, I think it REALLY has to do with where you are. The petsmart stores around here are actually pretty good. Petco is really sad, though. ;_;
However, that being said, I find the smaller fish...
I think that's what happened!
And yeah, water changes are always a good thing. I do my routine 20-25 weekly, and then whenever the fish seem lethargic or water cloudy or anything, I'll do more.
I use a breeder box for my platys. Out of the first batch, I have 16 that are still swimming around and growing. That will probably go down to about 10 or 12, but it's a good percentage.
I do have...
Thanks, yeah, I think I'm going to do that. Sheesh. bit of a panic there.
Well, the fish got a 40% water change instead of a 25 this time. :P
I think the whole thing was a platy conspiracy....
I've been keeping danios for years now, and they like to school in groups of a MINIMUM of 5, I like to keep 7. And they tend to like odd-numbered groups.
They also like to play with other fish.
I usually let mine run for 2-3 days until there's a white cloud running through the tank. Then as soon as that disappears I'll put the first fish in and start the cycling process.
I think it's a bad test kit. 'Cause my tap water tested at ammonia levels of 2-4 ppm.
And yeah, all the fish are doing just great.
Too great. -_- I put in one little cube of mosquito larvae in...
Well, according to the test kit, my tap water is 4ppm, as well. Wow! I was drinking ammonia and didn't know it?
Bad test kit.
No, it's a liquid one. 5ml water sample, part A, part B,...
