I took the stand to 400 grit sand paper, I think I sould have went higher

Yea but the stain looks smooth and took well its just the color is awful. My bed room funiture is ebony and its blackish brown. The stand is blackish purple like ink.

I use Krylon fusion plastic coat to paint the back ground........its the only way I do it.

I was ether going to stain it Ebony of just clear coat it.
