i haven't used it before, but you can try to lessen the amount of water flow created by the filter with some java moss, or a type of plant that'll sit near it and act as a cushion for most of the...

i find it more useful to have a hose connected to the drain, if, you don't want to use a bucket and haul over the sink many times!

well i'm speaking in terms of if a fish gets sick and i have to put medication in the tank in order to help it recover.

as for switching the chemical filtration out periodically i was well aware...

would you have to switch them/it out when having to medicate the water? i really don't want to be taking out my chemical filtration out of my sump during WCs or medication..

filling up your BHT school would be better, than having 2 small schools of fish - imho.

i'd go for the BHTs.

fine gravel(sand) will most likely sink to the bottom of the tank and the gravel at the top. although there are sands that are finer and thicker than others, so who knows.
