some people have had mondo grass do well...why not try it if i can get it for a dollar? for a buck if it dies in 6 months oh well, it was pretty while it was there :hmm3grin2orange:

Just came across this thread that i started months ago - out of the anubias, hornwort, cabomba & elodea i started with...the anubias & elodea survived my snails! the hornwort & cabomba were all eaten...

sweet! theres a home depot near me!! so vinyl tubing - which im guessing is all the eheim tubing is - is fine...just need to get the size right

I upgraded to a 65g tank yesterday that is about 4-6in taller than my old tank -my eheim filters were already on top of bricks because the tubes were too short - but now the filters...
thanks for the ideas - i'll look into the bigger pipe & the clay a little more (i read that its pretty cheap)

My pleco (Peru) is rapidly reaching 10in & will be in need of a larger cave probably by the winter.
I have been searching for DIY ideas but haven't found anything good.
I have a container that i've been using so he hasn't come out of water.
Should I add any aquarium salt to the hospital tank?

he's doing worse than he was when I found him 4hrs ago. He cant swim but is breathing (laying at the bottom of the breeder) & moves his side fins a little if i hold him up.

ya dropsy is a difficult one to deal with. I would say in terms of prevention the same old advice - keep the water in great condition, fast the fish one or two days a week & feeds shelled cooked peas...

wow looking good - i am so glad u have posted pictures of the growth rate! I am always wondering when my little black ranchu/lionhead will have wen/head? growth, he's still under a year old so i hope...
my fantail is 2yrs old now. When i got him his body was about an inch and a bit long. Now his body is just over 3in long - with his tail he is over 6in in lenght...& he's kinda round.
no...i should - mostly bc i'm curious too, sadly it didnt even occur to me & i have the test kit under my main tank!

i did a little reading to jog my memory of why i thought the frogs with my fish was a bad idea...they will get eaten...or fat...either way not a good outcome!

I think try salt in the tank with your pleco Lab Rat & see if that helps before you do anything else & maybe think about meds - if you havent tried that yet. yes Peru's growth had nothing in it...

its been 5 months since the growth was removed & its still looking good!
Peru is still growing about a half inch a month & is now a little over 9in. About a month ago he started eating out...
