I've already done that.
And I don't think I'm loosing any more now.
But out of about 300 fry I have about half as many
as I started with.
I think I would have seen some dead ones if they were...
I'm talking about swimming angel fry.
And YES, they do sleep on the bottom at night
when the light is off.
They're only 2 weeks old.
I usually leave the light on the first couple of weeks
Anyone know if large Mystery Snails can attack
small fry at night when they're sleeping?
I had a bunch of new fry disappear over the past week and
that may be the explanation.

I recommend removing the eggs and hatching them (when possible)
in a separate container. I use a 2.5 gal aquarium.
If you do get the parents to raise the fry, all you have to
do is provide food...
Just curious about how others use meth blue.
Do you try to remove it before they swim
like I do?
And if so, how do you get rid of it?
Small partials, charcoal??
Methaline blue is what I've been using for over 30 yrs now.
I was just wondering about tap water. Thanks
I've read where some breeders hatch their eggs out in water from
the tap, leaving the chlorine in to help fight fungus.
That didn't work for me but I wonder, my water has chloramines,
so does that...
I use 29 gal grow out tanks.
As they grow I cull and move them but may start out with
400 in a 29 gal. and end up with over 100 at selling size.
That is pretty common in angels, it may develop into popeye if left
untreated. I'm treating one right now. He seems to be improving.
I believe it's a fungus infection. May have nothing to do with...
I feed my fish ALL they can eat.
Never a problem, makes them grow!
Are they in darkness all night or do you leave any lights on?
And, are they being fed live baby brine shrimp?
That would explain a lot.
My angels always grow faster and better on live shrimp,
but only for the first few weeks.
Then I have to switch to flake, or they start dieing.
Maybe I could supplement...
They grow 4 times as fast when they're on the shrimp
verses the flake food.
I can't get enough nutrition to them the first week
unless I use the live shrimp. If I use the flake, I loose...
Why is it I can't keep my angel fry on baby brine shrimp
for more than about 4 weeks without a bunch of them start
developing swim bladder problems and dieing?
If I switch them to flake I don't...
My angels do very well in hard water, and share it with a few rainbows too.
I always get a few of those.
With more inbreeding, they seem to increase in numbers.
They need to be culled early, mine become food for
the larger fish.
Any down side to useing the decapsulated eggs instead of
Seems like a win-win to me.
They're easier, cheaper, more nutritious
What's the down side?
why hatch it out?
I took my angels off the brine shrimp and feed them
only flake foods now and they seem to be doing fine.
I don't have any more deaths now.
Seems to me that the babies are fine on a brine shrimp diet
until they get about 3 to 4 weekss old.
Then I start losing one or two every day.
I'm convinced it's the brine shells being ingested so...
Well I think you'll probably be ok.
When I think back to all the years I had fish and didn't know anything
about cycleing, it's amazing that they ever lived.
Countless times I started a new tank...
It's not the size, it's the age.
I find about 10 months is the youngest I've gotten to spawn,
and most times about a year.

1/2" glass won't come close to what you need.
My 125 gal. is that.
A 220 gal is 3/4" I think.
Even 1" thick glass may not be enough for a 9' span.
You better check into that for sure.

How thick does the glass need to be?
And where do you get some that big?
You would just unscrew the plastic at the hose and would need a hose
fitting on your gravel cleaner so you could connect it to the hose.
Shouldn't be hard to do, the hardware store has a lot of...
