    Hi Everyone,

Recently I have started an open-top freshwater aquarium for the purpose of providing my minnows with a fresh crop of overhead duckweed for water denitrifying as well as snacking. ...

The bristlenose, huh? I should mention, too, my tank is coldwater (minnows) and water temp averages 68 degrees F. A lot of the tropical algae feeders may not appreciate it.

    Brown algae; phosphates and silicates?

I have a 15 gallon tank with live plants, and natural sunlight lighting switched on 8 hours a day. The only algae accumulation I've noticed in the tank is brown algae. Easy to clean up, but within...

    Aponogeton crispus bulbs

Can anyone tell me where I can get Aponogeton crispus bulbs, online or otherwise? I wanted those specifically, not Apon "mixes" like the packaged bulbs you get at Petco or Walmart.

    Thanks!

Books and food labels usually say twice a day. Is that way too much? I usually feed them twice a day but just what they can eat in 60 seconds.

I wanted to hear your opinions on what works better in aquariums, nice looking artificial plants or live plants. Right now I have both, but I'm leaning towards the more high-end artificial...

Yes, for the goldfish, I keep them on for the plants.

For the minnows, only when I was feeding them or "showing them off." But a few of them found the fluorescent light oppressive.

    Surface film

    Hi Everyone,

What is that surface film that forms on top of the water? My aquarium water is clear as a bell, but that film is distracting.

Any ideas? Can I get rid of it?

    Thanks,

    Curt
