Only problem with the freezer is with food that contains probiotics, such as the food from Ken's, Cobalt, and Aqua-Pharm. Freezing kills the probiotics, or so I'm told.

I usually find with my Eheim Claasics that when the flow is reduced, it's something to do with the intake. Could be anywhere from the intake along the tube, through the double tap valves, to where...

My rams have never spawned in caves. They lay their eggs on flat rocks on the substrate.

That makes me doubt that your fish was guarding eggs. Hope I'm wrong, however.

I once had an auto feeder malfunction while we were on a two week vacation, on a tank with lots of fry. They all survived. The tank did have a lot of moss, however.

    I've since taken 12 day...

I'd vote for moving the dad, if you have a good place to put him. I've had moms kill dads.

    Apistos?

I think you could fit a pair of apistos.

    Experience

Assuming your question is directed at me, I base it on my personal experience. I've run 20 gallon tanks with AC 20s or Eheim 2211 filters alone and the fish have thrived. My one concern is that the...

    Ac 20

I agree that an Aquaclear 20 should be enough, if you clean it regularly. I think that the conventional wisdom about wanting twice as much gph as the manufacturers recommend is not correct.
  10. Pool filter sand

Pool filter sand can be vacuumed, almost like gravel, but is better for corydoras.

    Safe

If you are treating a lot water, Safe is better, but for a single tank I'd go with Prime.

    CPDs

Personally, I find it easier to move the parents out of the tank and wait for the eggs to hatch and fry to appear.

    Vacation

I'd skip the feeding. I just took a 12 day vacation and didn't feed any of my 7 tanks. All the fish were fine when I returned.
  14. Don't worry

My Bolivian rams are not very aggressive when breeding. They're fine in 74 degree water.

    cory fry and substrate

I've read that bare bottoms are not good for cory fry and that a thin layer of sand is far better. That's what I've used and I've had great success.

    Eggs

I just peel them off with my fingers and put them in a 5 gallon tank with lots of moss. It works quite well. I've got more than 100 fry scurrying around right now.

    Yup

If you're in the Boston area, there has to be a local club. Here in Washington DC, we have two great clubs, and I buy 90% of my fish from members (and sell fish that are reproducing).

Nice article on using rain water

I found this article recently, and thought it was very balanced as to the use of rain water:

    Ph of 6?

I'd love to have water like that. It's actually pretty ideal for so very cool fish, especially many from South America, like German rams, apisots, and corydoras. I'd skip the coral.

I use two of these. I picked up a Zoomed at the ACA convention last summer and have been glad I did.

    Yes

Endlers are indeed live bearers and reproduce at a high rate, so you may want to get only males(which are much more colorful). Otherwise, you'll quickly be faced with a population explosion.
  24. Ram fry

I've had similar results/luck. I've had success when I have removed fry to a small grow out tank, once they were at the free swimming stage.

I'd be more inclined to suspect the parents or other...

    Rain barrel water

There are a variety of views on this, obviously. I've used water from my rain barrels in some of my aquariums (in Washington, DC) without issue and know others who also do this, but others I know...
