Just a thought because you have well water. Have you tested the water for copper or other metals? If the levels are to high that would kill the fish slowly.

Personally I say stick with a green terror tank. You could put the dither fish and such still but stay away from the JD. Not that they are bad fish but if you get the wrong one you may end up with...
