Very odd... Well you could always just do partial water changes until it stabilizes and the filter grows enough BB. Interesting though that raising the temperature did that.

Interesting solution, a first for me. :)

Does your fish store not have any sort of ich treatments that you could get?

Oh, I always use a dechlorinator but for the chloramine. Montreal's water, thankfully, doesn't have fluoride... but I guess that's not much of an issue.

lol! Well, I would use 25-gallon plastic garbage containers to prepare the water most of the time. But yes, they were disruptive. Then again I didn't/don't do the massive water changes as most...
  7. Do you still prepare water before a water change?

I haven't seen a lot of this idea going around, so I thought I'd ask. :)

Over the years I have always set out my water in buckets 24-48 hours before performing a water change. For a very long...

    Hi! :)

+1 to everything everyone said before. It's essential to get the tank cycled and learn the basics before getting the fish, so that you get out of the cycle of the fish dieing on you before...

This is a HOB filter that works with only an airstone. :) So I think HawkerW you were right. The airstone "pumps" the water into the canister and very gently sends the water back on those two...

I have this brush for filter pieces that is attached to a 6-foot long wire so that it can be stuck into long piping. It used to be an accessory you could get in the 90s for Fluval filters. Not sure...

Personally I loved having a bit of algae in my aquariums, provided that it didn't get out of hand or wasn't the result of improper maintenance. I agree with Bethy-- it's "natural" and many fish will...
