im diggin those dark eyes
+1 to everyone, also, when ammonia levels get really high (2.0ppm etc) bacteria tends to have trouble getting established, hence you not seeing any progress.

My water change process.
1.Use a hose to syphon from tank to garden outside
2.Add double dose (per enire tank volume - not water added) of Prime
3.Plug hose back in, put it in tank, and fill to...
Firstly, zonkythedonkey is a genius name that made me chuckle. Only skimmed over this thread but didnt notice if a heater was mentioned? If not heat it up to ~ 25C definitely will speed that cycle up...
Nah - plants wont do the trick at all. Theyll survive the cycling process but will do little to remove large amount of ammonia.
Best thing if you're gonna keep going with the Fish-in cycle is to...
Whats the reasoning behind being opposed to returning a recently wild caught fish back to the wild? Am i missing something? Are they a pest or something?
Returning to the wild seems like a sound...
CAE - worst fish on the planet, ugly, aggressive and seriously impossible to catch. Still have one in a tank because i cant physically get rid of it
I always hear these stories of these gas bubbles killing fish, but seriously, when i get a lil lazy on the sand sifting, my entire sand bed is just bubble-ville and i stir it all up at the same time...
Might seem a little harsh, but unless you fishless cycled that tank before adding that fish - youre definitely best off to return the fish to the wild, read about cycling, cycle, then catch another...

I use the basically the same method as you, except as genocidex said, double dose for entire tank before refilling
The temperature thing depends alot on species of fish and ambient temperatures...

+1 +1 Don't hesitate to water change.
I wouldnt bother with the RO water, its probably doing more harm then good, removing valuable trace minerals etc - unless your water supply is particularly...
The thing is, what youre suggesting is more or less impossible. If you put a certain number of fish in and have a cycled balanced 'tank', the amount of BB in there will be the exact amount that can...
My mbuna do their best to eat my hands when they go in the tank, so ime they will eat anything that i come bearing tee hee:hmm3grin2orange:
At risk of sounding rude, its probably more of a snake forum sorta thing?
also - i have kept demasonis in very small numbers (1-4) and i now have about 10 and have no aggression issues.
I often read that they suggest a 1:10 m:f ratio but in my experience this is just...
Yeah those cuckoo cats are always expensive in Australia, i found a 2 for $30 deal and was overwhelmed with excitement.
These fish are truly awesome and are definitely worth the $25 (just make sure...
I use eco-complete and kinda wish i didnt.
I find it very hard to adequately clean - the particles arent very dense and are therefore sucked up with a gravel vac..
Just something to consider if...

Firstly, i would read up hardcore on The Nitrogen Cycle if you haven't already. If your N03 is 0 you certainly don't have a cycled tank, unless you've got tonnes of plants in there.
Never add a...
Awesome. Figured that would be the way to go.
Im gonna to ye olde hardware store and see whats the happy haps after work tomorrow. I just assumed everything would be available in every size.
Yeah hockeyheads journal has treated me well so far - so essentially, i need to plumb it - work out exactly how much loss will occur and choose the return pump from there?
In terms of the sump and...
Yeah, i was originally going to get a few of those, but there just isnt enough space for one of adequate size.
I literally don't know what that means. haha
thought someone might pick up on that one hehe
ill definitely decide on stocking/future of the tank prior to making any decisions.
Wondering if anyone can weigh in on what would be a good size...
Farout man, this is a very good website - somehow my hours (months) of googling didn't come across that one...
you make me wish i had corys :<
