Thanks for the tip about melafix. I had no idea t broke down in the sum, but that would explain why it dosen't seem as strong as it used to.

I have to agree with having Melafix on...

if your water is good, they may need a more varied diet. i found that feeding only one variety of food tends to cause colour fade.

a full grown redtail will require at least 250g (bare minimum).

i believe what you ve got there is a sailfin pleco or Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps. very similar to the common in size a colouration, but the eyes and the long attatched backfin give it away.

you had no ammonia or nitrites because there was none present at any time in the tank. with out these, there would have been no food for the processing bacteria and thus, they died.

ive never seen a 2'-2nd half foot bass. my guess is 18" at most. but like you said, he'll get mighty fat.

if you've had him for a year, he should only have about a few months...

make sure you breed them in aseperate tank though. the puffers will mow there way through the colony pretty quick if they're bred in the same tank.
