Happy Birthday, Matt - Hope you had a great day!
6 fish would be better than 5.
You can keep 6 discus in a 55 gal tank, if there are no other, or very few, other tank-mates.
As examples, if you want some takmates, you could have 6 discus, and 3...
Keep in mind that keeping just 2, 3, or 4 discus is not usually a good idea. It's often an invitation for bullying behavior.
This often results in pecking order aggression of a serious nature.
# 3 above by Rocksor is your best bet.
I believe it's really quite simple- you have a turquoise and a cobalt that really just don't get along - and pecking order takes precedence with just 2 fish...

Welcome to AC
Nice tank & stand. Looking forward to seeing how you finish it off & stock it.

Looking forward to seeing the pics.
Here's hoping the addition of Cory Cats and BNP's without QT won't result in any cross-contamination to the discus.
Leave the lights off today, and don't feed...

Your reasoning for getting 4 is good, but perhaps you should have considered a larger tank in the first place.
Hopefully your 4 will get along just fine until you can move them to a larger tank, and...

Romien, you said you did lots of discus homework, but you either missed or overlooked some things, or you didn't do enough homework in the right places, from experienced discus keepers.

We must live in an area of Vancouver where trick or treating from house to house is still a popular thing to do.
My wife bought 80 treats, because we had had 62 door-bell ringers last year, and we...
I believe fishmommie's comments are right on the money - I too feel it's a water quality problem. Keeping 2" discus in a planted tank with substrate, and doing only 20% wcs twice-weekly is usually an...

If you want to keep 5 or 6 discus, you'll need at least a 60 gal tank - larger if you want to keep tank-mates with them.
As for strains & colors, that's strictly up to you - whatever catches your...
Too bad it didn't pan out. Lacy was almost invisible in the game.
I didn't even notice he was playing.
Yeah, I think Eli has quite a bit to learn yet - and he doesn't really have the talent his brother has.
He sure has !
And if anybody can get a tough job done, it's him, even though Seattle put a stop to that in the SB ! LOL
He's been my favorite QB since the late '90's, until Wilson came along that...
Yeah, I could live with Brees or Brady if I didn't have Wilson - but I might also pick P. Manning as an alternate, even after the shellacking that the Broncos got at the hands of the Hawks last...
Ready for football ?
Hey, I couldn't be more ready !!
The 'Hawks are my team, and I'm really ready for a REPEAT !
Russell Wilson played only 13 sets of downs in the 4 pre-season games, and...
If you can get reasonably good-sized (near mature adult) Cardinals, introduce them first, then add younger juvenile Angels later, you shouldn't have any trouble at all.
In that size of tank, you...
[QUOTE=JudiJetson;1256867]Paul, your Cardinal Rules thread is genius in it's simplicity for anyone that is considering keeping discus. I also have your Beginners Guide to Discus printed out and...
OK, duh - I didn't know why it does that either. Now I do.
You learn something new every day ! LOL
Yeah, I just gave you a thumbs up for your # 25 post, and it shows me a red thumbs down.
Why is JudiJetsons' post # 21 showing 'thumbs down' when both were 'thumbs up', or certainly intended to be ?
You have a good eye, Judi, to note the reflection in the glass - didn't see that.
That was a very good commentary to give to someone who's obviously new to discus (and perhaps to fish-keeping...
You were looking for identification of your discus, but that's extremely difficult to do when your camera was on them only 2 or 3 times, very quickly, for just a few seconds, and we never got a...
Canadian Aqua Farm in Maple Ridge, B.C. (Rick Grange) sells on-line & ships across Canada - but only Discus, Angels, Koi, and perhaps Rams - not sure. You can google their website.
Based on my experience with both, I would say that, generally speaking, Angels are more aggressive than discus, particularly if they are of similar size, or larger than the discus.
Angels will often...
