Good call mchambers. I waited on it an extra day to see if the situation in improved. It did not. His tail looked worse today than yesterday.
I pulled him out and put him in a 10G hospital tank...
Looks like a may have some issues. Still see lots of fry with momma. But daddy krib is in the other side of the tank with the rest of fish. Part of his tail and bit chewed off. Looks like momma krib...
So I was wrong in thinking the eggs were eaten a little less than a week ago. Today I spotted 32-35 free swimming fry. I can only assume the parents moved them to a different cave and I never...
I think that depends on the personality of the fish. I've been told that Kribs will for sure be aggressive. But how aggressive they will be is based on the individual. They can either keep a small...
Were the deaths from fish that were in there from the beginning?
Ammonia and Nitrite spikes even short term can shorten the life of fish. Especially in the case of fish cycling since you can only...
Found 2 decent shots right before they laid their eggs.
Looks like you were right. First batch of eggs were laid on Friday evening. By Monday they were all gone and the kribs pretty much abandoned that cave area and moved to a different spot to hang out....
I use the API master test to and mine always shows between 0-0.25 for ammonia. Always has no matter what water I test it with.
Don't beat yourself up over it. The problem is most likely with the...
I was lucky enough yesterday to be home at the exact moment my Kribs decided to start their mating ritual for the first time! 20 minutes later the female started going nuts in a small cave area in...

Some really great advice I'm reading, thanks!
I'll stick with my current species and start filling out the schools more over the coming weeks (including more plants).

I got a fluval 306 on there right now. Intake is on the left and return is on the right in hopes of getting some good water movement throughout the tank. Weekly 20-25% water changes. I test...

I agree with you on the Cory cats. I do plan on adding at least two more. I just didn't want to add a huge pile of fish all at once. I been doing about 1-3 per week.
My dwarf gourami do get along...

Hello everyone. Been on here for a few months, doing more reading than posting and trying to learn as much as possible. I got a 55 gallon tank that has been cycled since early Decemember and I've...

Don't waste your time checking nitrates. Super high nitrites will cause false readings. Happened to me. I was getting off the chart deep red during fishless cycle. Once nitrites went to 0, nitrates...
When I did my 55 gallon I used the Ace brand ammonia. It believe it was 10% strength.
I dosed 5ml (used a test tube from API test kit as measuring device) and it brought ammonia up to around 5ppm.
I'm almost in the same boat as you. I'm 5 weeks in. Except I have 0 nitrites and 0 nitrates.
I test the the API liquid master test.
I'm also using the API tap water conditioner.
