I have an 80 g tank with two 48'' light fixtures rated for 40 w each. I have a sand substrate and want to know what types of plants would be good for a completely unplanted 80g. I've looked at some...

Thanks, I'll probably be looking at going and getting some this afternoon!
Also, I had another question that is a bit off topic. But I have two light fixtures for my tank that can both hold 40w...

So if I were to get boesemani rainbow fish, I would need to get at least 8? I'm concerned that might put me overstocked, but then again, maybe not.

I didn't even realize I was going for a red theme! I guess it looks that way. Those cockatoo dwarf cichilids look amazing though, I've never even heard of those guys.

I'll measure all the PH levels etc...in the tank tomorrow morning after I'm off work and post them. I like the idea of oddballs too. I've like the look of several loach species like horse faces. I've...

So I've got a partially stocked 80 g that's been fully fish-less cycled and has a sand substrate with artificial plants and real driftwood. My filtration is a Marineland HOT 250 (55g), and a...
I do have an 80g sitting around with the proper filtration for a nice community tank....perhaps i can rename this thread.
So I called to set up a pick up time with the buyer today and he said his teenage daughter sold it already! We had agreed to a price and pickup time! I am not very pleased.
Actually its Sepik Rainbow, they get up to around 6'' but require slightly acidic water. I'm not too familair with apistos, I'll look into those guys. I have some lighting that I think may be...
What are some of the more exotic/bizarre/rare FW community friendly fish that are out there? Something centerpiece worthy!
From what I've read, keeping the planted tanks with cichilids won't work well, at least with the larger ones. I've heard of people having large groups of German Blue rams in community tanks with lots...
I've been semi active on the forums for a little over a year now and have enjoyed reading you guys' journals so I've decided to create my own on this large endeavor I'm about to go...

Part of me also wants to get a school of Pacu or Piranhas, although I realize that's all I could have. But I think the novelty of having a school of high maintenance killers would wear off quickly.

I've taken a liking to rainbows especially, like sepik rainbows and some of the larger schooling varieties. I think for the level of activity I want community is the way to go.
so lets start a...

Okay, well say I don't want to stock with any of the large puffer species or anything as big as an Oscar.
What about cichilids 6'' and under and a great deal of schooling fish? Filter...

I think I will do a journal...I need to find my camera though for some higher quality stuff.
I do have one more question, for a 180G can i get recommendations on filters from you guys? I was...

In my mind I seem somewhat set on FW as I still only have a couple years experience in FW under my belt. The massive costs of SW initially are what's turning me off. I have the $$ but it doesnt mean...

I will be going to the sellers house to help him load it in his truck and I will inspect/remeasure there. I will gladly help the guy out even with the fee.
I'm thinking about starting an aquarium...

The tank is glass, I don't have anyway of moving it, and he said for an extra $50 he'd deliver it the roughly 60 miles round trip. The stand was somewhat basic with no doors or anything but I can...

I recently just moved into a new house and have a completely empty room to house tanks. I had a 40g and a 75g and rehomed the few fish i had and wanted to start from scratch when I moved. I think I'm...

So I checked my water parameters today, and my tank specs were perfect. did a WC and I now have 3 figure 8 puffers swimming happily around.

Yea, I'm just a little disappointed. When i saw nitrites and nitrates by day 2, I thought I was on easy street, but I guess not.
12-13-2012, 11:34 PM
The nitrites are reading 5ppm. Ammonia is hitting 0 by each morning and i redose to between 1-2 ppm
12-13-2012, 05:58 PM
I set up an 80g and planted some blue filter material from an established filter on a running 40g into my 2 canister filters I have running. I had nitrites and nitrates by the second day.
