Once the cycle is done I might consider adding some acid buffer to bring your pH down to a range comfortable for those fish. 8.4 is a little high in my opinion. I use Seachem Acid Buffer in my tank...

Oh, b4 I forget...DON'T ADD ANYMORE FISH until this is corrected. Like I said, it sounds like your tank is cycling NOW. A Dempsey & a Terror...they should/could make it through cycling...but hope for...

Just taking a stab at it but sounds like your tank is going through its bio cycle now. What do you mean "let everything cycle for the first week with no fish"? Did you just let the tank run to cycle...
