I think you misunderstood Ms. Walstad concering lighting In her book she emphasizes that tanks should be kept shallow; light is wasted on deep tanks so forget the high powered lighting go for 2-3...

Unfortunately I learned the hard way that a 30 gallon tank is not big enough for one goldfish (mine weight about two pounda and grew to be 11 inches long and 9 inches in girth
