All the driftwood and background in my 20G is covered in little white pinhead eggs. They're not very attractive, but the snail is adept at getting them into crevices so they're hard to get rid of.

You might be right. Bettas here are rarely differentiated by type, but are mainly VTs, occasionally you'll find some CTs. I'll keep an eye on him as he grows and see what he turns out as.

I cut the bottom off a clean styrofoam noodle...
I cut the bottom off a clean styrofoam noodle cup, so that it was just a ring. I floated that in a corner of my aquarium and it gives a nice ring of still water for them to nestbuild in.
