Well, this turned out to be true...LOL....
I ended up ditching the 18000 for another pair of 6700....I'm still searching for the balance in this tank (it's only been a few months)....
Serves me right for listening to the vendor !!!!
Power-Glo Super Bright Aquarium Lamp
High Output T5 Fluorescent Tube
Hmmm.... starting to sound like I need some new bulbs...and swap out the 18000....
Novice question here. I've looked around, but can't seem to find a good answer and thought I'd ask here.
I'm using two 36" T5HO light fixtures, each with two 39W bulbs, on my 125 planted...
Thanks for all the nice comments. I've seen enough pictures of other member's tanks to know that I'm still a novice, but it's still nice to hear them :hmm3grin2orange:
It was about 2 years ago that I came to this board after crashing my son's 20 gallon fw community tank by deciding that the best way to clean the filter media was to run under hot tap water for a few...

Yeah....sounds like I should just keep moving the light back and forth for the next week....
I'm guessing increasing the hours isn't a good idea ? ie, if I had the lights on...

I just consolidated two smaller tanks (20, 45) into a 125. Everything so far has gone smoothly, etc, etc.
One remaining problem (I'm sure I have others, but this is the one I'm currently...
Well, things seem to be stable. The missing yo-yo has been found, and there have been no more deaths or strange behavior.
I don't think it's the 'trates. Like I said, they are low (10ish)...
I did an extra big water change and a pretty thorough gravel vac.
Not to start a holy war, but I also added some carbon and will run that for a few days or week. Maybe something bad is in the...
That's a good idea, Northern.
I have another tank (community 20) which is doing fine (same water supply, same maintenance routine, etc), but you never know, each tank handles things differently...
Need some help or suggestions here (warning, this might be a long post).
Here's the quick synopsis: I've lost three fish and a shrimp in the last month in my 45 tall community (see approximate...

The Distance (by Cake)
Well, this is an outdoor chore, but I find pressure-cleaning the driveway/sidewalks a fun one.... for some reason, it's addictive... I guess it's an instant gratification kinda thing....

Black Math - White Stripes
Just a quick follow-up. It's been about 1 1/2 months since I added the betta and things are still going fine. To be completely honest, I can't recall seeing any nipping or fighting.
Like the other posters, I feed mine at the same time as the rest of the tank. I generally treat them the same as any other bottom feeder - ie, make sure I have some sinking food in the mix.
celloplayer banned for unabashedly liking tool.
Cello - thanks for that link....it's a nice writeup.
Geez, the stuff in my tank just didn't look like staghorn.
What's odd is that it had the texture of cyanobacteria, but was only present...
Not sure if this stuff is algae, so it might be in the wrong topic.
My son left our lights on 24X7 for a few days on my last business trip. Normally, I'd come home to a ton of green, gooey...
I think it depends on the type of filter media.
Most people here use the term 'media' to describe the biological media (ie, the noodles, stars, balls, etc). These things certainly don't need to...
I've been using one 24/7 for a few months.
I use a 9W Coralife in my 45 and I drive it with a submersible power head pump (as opposed to having it inline with my filter).
The reason I went...
I ended up with a few of those same plants in my tank about a year ago. I later found out they weren't truly aquatic (maybe bog plants ? don't remember).
In any case, I left them in the tank...
To be completely objective, the tank is really nothing special. I take cuttings from my 45 and plant them in the 20. The decorations are that neat root thing and a couple of pvc...
