I prefer the refractometer. However, if you properly calibrate your hydrometer, you should be accurate enough for FOLR.

you dont post you ca mag and alk levels.
You can easily be putting water in your tank that is not up to the levels you think it is.
My LPS show me signs of stress if my mag levels fluctuate.
