So, our bristlenose didn't survive more than two days, but everyone else has been happy since we started.
Thanks for all the advice! Our tank is a happy place :)
I have a satellite plus sized for a 36 gallon bowfront -The 24-36 inch one -and it is great! I have a lot of easy going plants.
I have been hiding out! Not really, but life is nutso at the moment ( as in fullfull and busy, not anything horrible) and it is all I can manage to keep everything going... Tanks included!
I bet the pristellas were happier... Ours are also so much happier in the 36 than they were in the 15!

Yes you do :) we decided that they needed more room than the 15 and moved them up and found them some friends. All of their tails are back to bright red and they seem to be happier in...

In a lot of respects this has been a "please may I have a do over?" kind of day, but I came home to 4 aponogeton flowers from the two plants we grew from bulbs.
The flowers are up...
Oooh, pretty! It is amazing how much better most fish look out of the stores...

I am pretty sure she has plain aquarium gravel and the two decorations are from the lfs. They should be inert, shouldn't they? Or do they make some decorations for fw and some for sw?

She says she has been doing a 25% water change about every other week.
I have been using my test kit, but I don't have a test for GH yet. Tap pH is 8.4, tank is 7. Aside from the two kinds of...

Interesting. Ok, i can definitely do this, but don't know if I can go back over there tonight or not. I will check and see what she says. If that is not an option, I can certainly do it tomorrow...

She has always used pH neutral to put water in the tank. And apparently her ph stays around there (unless the super high nitrate levels lower pH?). Our tap water comes out around 8.4. Is the pH...

They are at the darkest color on the API master test card, so either 160 or more than that if the color just doesn't get any darker:( While her current fish aren't happy looking, only one is...

A good friend of mine was the driving force behind my daughter asking for a fish tank for her birthday. She had done that for hers, and our kiddos are in school together... And you know how ideas...

Thanks, slap! I will def keep on dosing the ammonia. We went out of town for the weekend and I was having a giggle over the list for the friend petwatcng for us. Feed the dog, feed the cat, feed...

Everything is still looking like we are good to go with the cycle, but it will likely be next weekend before we get fish.
Should I do a pwc now to start getting the nitrates down in preparation?

Ammonia and nitrites are both down to 0 again today! I guess we're there :)
Our aponogeton has sent up a shoot like it is getting ready to flower... Lots to see even without fish :)
Just crawled through from the beginning, and now I want a beer o_0
This was one heck of a journal/journey!

Thanks! I will go and find that section of the other thread. I did some skimming through the middle of that one 0_o
I had thought that the main advantage of fishless cycling was managing the...
Sweet! I am glad that they arrived and made it tankside safely, process shenanigans aside.

Crap! Crappity crapcrapcrap!
I think my tank is almost cycled, and I am having a bit of a freak out. Nitrites were through the roof last night ( off the chart!) and now they are at .25ppm....

It's here! I DO love the new light! It was pretty durn speedy getting here and the kiddos and I are busy cruising the effects.
It looks bright enough....
Ammonia is still dropping...
That is pretty exciting :)

Or we could repurpose the tomato growing light....
OW, My eyes! Then again, maybe not. Still, the plants aren't likely to flounder between now and Thursday when the new light arrives.
