I give my mosquito larvae a bath in tap water for a couple of hours before feeding to the fish, changing the water every half-hour or so. It wouldn't get rid of bacteria/viruses but can help limit...
-
Hmm, does make it harder.
I went to a lecture about diseases in aquarium fish...I wonder if a disease came through on the media from the other tank?

Copper is lethal to shrimp. Do you have copper pipes in your house?
-
An old rule was that the fancier a goldfish is, the more delicate it is.
Interestingly, this rule was trotted out by my trustworthy LFS owner when I was choosing goldfish for our pond! I wanted...
-
I did that with my Bettas, except I held an old hand-held shaving mirror up against the glass. But I used a timer to make sure it was only for a few minutes.
-
Try using a timer for the lights too. Having the light going on and off at the same time each day will help them adjust to it.

Another thought on stocking is that, sometimes, less is more.
However, be careful with schooling fish or social fish. Do not buy 1 or two of them. They need their school or group to be happy, eat...

I understand what you are feeling.

Your fish will not die if you don't feed it for a week. It'll get hungry, yes, but not die.
If you ever wish to enter your fish in a live competition for judging by profesionals, then you won't...

No food for anybody in the tank for the week.

Snails. They'll still be here well after all humans and cockraoches have gone...

Did you par-boil the slice of cucumber first?
Otos and Bristlesnoses were shouldering each other out of the way to eat within seconds of me putting parboiled cucumber or pairbolied zuchini into...

Absolutely required are daily partial water changes. Try to feed minimal food, too.

I believe that poor nutrition when young can also be a culprit.

There are things you can buy in aquarium shops to alter pH. I once had a tube each of chemicals called "pH Up" and "pH Down", which did exactly that.
-
To me, goldfish are active fish, they don't lie around. They are always swimming around, grubbing around looking for morsels to guzzle or heading somewhere new to look for food or friends with whom...

Can you describe what the algae looks like?
-
I'd be getting ready to isolate her, though. If that male keeps bothering her, her recovery rate is going to be much slower, methinks.
-
You could try a simple sponge filter.
-
You can remove the snails by hand if you don't like them or if they chew up your plants too much. I used to have a monthly cull.
-
Given that I've read that that tank is fairly warm, it might be breeding behaviour...I can't comment on the faeces, hopefully others will here.
Sorry.

Mosquitofish are right pests - here in Australia they are almost up there with rabbits and Cane Toads.
If you do decide to bring home what is there, add a little aquarium salt to the bucket. That...

Generally, fish become lethargic when sick - which is why they become easy prey to other fish. When stressed their reactions really can vary. I've had fish that become hypersensitive...they race...
-
Theoretically, yes. When fish are stressed thier slime coat is affected, so adding some artificial slime coat into the water shouldn't hurt.
