Decided to add some hornwort, and give shrimps a go, hoping the extra hiding space keeps 'em safe. I bought 4, have only seen 3 in the last few days, but the fourth might just be hiding. If it...

Oh, yeah I did--tired. I've seen snails eat dead fish, so I wasn't sure if they'd go for shrimp.

Betta is old..might wait a bit longer then.
Nerites wouldn't eat the snail?

Ghost shrimp? Cherry shrimp?
I have a 10gal with a female betta, and a nerite snail and some plants..

Also! Last night I noticed the bubbler was altering their swim patterns so I turned it off. They seem much, much happier without the bubbler!

Everything's still going fine! :D
Currently thinking about getting another female betta, and some neon tetras...

No bloodbath during the night! :D

Yeah, I might get some more in a few weeks, but so far, so good.
I'm also considering adding a small school of neon tetras in with them, but I'm not 100% sure the glofish need more than 10 gallons,...

She's almost as pretty as a male betta.
Also--now that I'm finished adding everyone back in--I'm pretty sure she's the dominant one. I did a water change (I was due), and fed everyone as well to...

Got a 4th betta--she's a twinlobe. I removed everyone else, re-arranged the decor, and am re-adding in reverse dominance order. So far, so good.

They were labelled glofish tetras--but, yeah they're danios...

Found out my heater has a thermostat, and I didn't set the heater up properly, so I'm re-doing that. Hopefully that will help.

np--I figured one of the b's was bacteria, but couldn't think of the other for some reason. I always figured digital was MORE accurate...hrrrmmm..maybe my current one IS right. Couldn't hurt to...

EDIT: Also--is there any brand of thermometer anyone would reccomend?
04-26-2011, 02:32 AM
This friday, I'm doing this, then I'm calling the tank good.
I plan on taking all the fish out, cleaning the gravel while I'm at it, then re-arranging the decor, then adding the...

Most def. I think I might do that this paycheck--introduce some new she-bettas, then some glofish (assuming the wife approves, it's sort of a mutual project).
04-25-2011, 11:55 PM
Even with the heater off it's about 80F today.
I've got an inkling that this thermometer might be off by a few degrees.
In any case, the fish are doing good, and I can always get a more reliable...

Fishie update: the girls are doing fine. We're pretty sure which one is dominant now.
No bullying so far, but she chases the other two from time to time, and they hide and she doesn't.
04-20-2011, 11:13 PM
Yeah, I already bought the bubbler, lol.
I know they don't "need" it, but I figure, extra O2 can't hurt, and I (and the kitties) like the bubbles.
04-20-2011, 08:20 PM
Ok, that should work.
My wife bought some new decor! yay! Might put some pics up later.
Anyway--the bubbler--is a bubbler OK?
04-20-2011, 02:56 PM
oh! Dumb question!
It's been years since I've even had a betta bowl. How often do I need to feed these girls? I'm used to tarantulas, which you feed weekly or semi-weekly, or even monthly, but I...

I'll definently get some more decor.
I'm not too worried about the fish fighting, since they all lived together previously at the pet shop, but I'll be sure to keep an eye on them.
For now I'll...

In retrospect, it's probably already been shuffled somewhat by the new scenery, and lack of other species. I'll get some more hidey places, give them maybe a month, and then re-evaluate.
04-20-2011, 04:02 AM
I'll get some stuff tomorrow.
Should I add new bettas soon so the current ones don't settle in, or would that stress them out too much?
Are there any other species I could add?
04-20-2011, 04:01 AM
These 3 were already living together, although with some swords as well (I don't want any live-bearers--don't want babies!)--is that still likely to be an issue? I do have some fake plants in there,...
