LOL...the mystery snail mysteriously vanished. That was quite a funny story to read. Good think no one stepped on her and crushed her.
If a snail opts to escape due to water quality then the water...

Yeah, I am thinking the same thing. Perhaps no fish over 1".
I think characins leave shrimp alone. I really like those guys.
Will dwarf frogs try to eat the shrimp? Those are cute littler...

I was also thinking of adding some cherry shrimp to the mix. And other types of shrimp too. And I am hoping that they will not become fish food. :hmm3grin2orange:

Wow, did not know that.
Guess I will not be adding any hippos to my planted tanks. :hmm3grin2orange:

Hi y'all. I came into some money and decided to treat myself to a 30 gallon half moon tank by Marineland.
I was wondering if you guys might be able to make some suggestions for some compatible...

Thanks, not sure if those are all dwarf varieties but I have a new thirty gallon tank that I want to fill up. I am reading that regular sized cichlids need about a fifty gallon tank.

Sorry for my newbie question but I believe I remember reading that regular sized cichlids eat real plants. Does the same generality apply to the dwarf versions as well?

Thanks for the input. I sometimes look at the stands sold for tanks in aquarium and pet stores and they seem flimsy in comparison to what I think would be appropriate. But I assume these people know...

But I see no heater for your guy. I would recommend a heater. Bettas like their warm bathwater. :)

Thanks but just to be a bit more clear. I am going to have 2x4's running along the length of the tanks. The 2" portion will be in contact with the 2x10.
I will also have 2x4's vertically...

I am trying to recycle some wood that I have to make a stand that will house three ten gallon tanks side by side. My question is, I am trying to use some 2x10's as the portion of...

So I have a DIY CO2 kit. I have the bubbles going into the impeller of my filter and it is breaking up the bubbles into very tiny bubbles in the tank. You can see them, they are floating around...

Thanks for the contributions. Well, as long as he is not sick then I can accept his own tail biting. Although I am not sure how it is possible due to the location of the fins that are torn away.

I do not think that the intake is causing this problem. In the smaller tank I had those little AZOO palm filters that barely create any suction. They are not very powerful.
Now that they are in...

Wow, thanks for the responses. This is perplexing. I moved him from a 6 gallon tank to the 10 gallon tank about two or three weeks ago. But prior to the larger home he still experienced this.

I have a gorgeous halfmoon betta that looked amazing and got prettier with time. I bought him at Petco and within a month or so most of his fins disintegrated. I thought it was fin rot so I got some...

Thanks, everyone. I would have gone with acrylic tanks but I have read about how algae can grow "inside" the acrylic and you cannot remove it. Since I have my aquarium lights on a lot I was...

Hey, all. So Chicago has experienced a heatwave and as the sun is becoming more angled in the sky it is shooting across my studio at a 45 degree angle. During the summer months it barely enters my...

For artificial plastic plants I used to toss in a couple 8 ounce cups of bleach to one of those square shaped bucket/bins. The worse the algae the more bleach I put in.
I am not sure with silk....

Hey, WhiteDevil. Thanks for the recommendation. I do live in Chicago and Skokie is not too far from me. Maybe I should just go visit there location if they actually have a store to browse in.
I just read that when fish rock or swim in an odd fashion that you described that they are goners and it is only a matter of time. In the future if you have a fish that is sick and swimming like that...

The black sand I purchased was actually Eco-Complete in black. It was on sale at Petco for !!$4.99!! a bag on clearance reduced from $19 or more. I bought the only two bags they had in stock and it...

Actually the fluorite I purchased was $30 a bag which is double than the 25lb bag of gravel. I would have gone with the fluorite from the get go but it was cost prohibitive for me. That is why I...

For those of you that know me on here I whined and moaned about Petco's bookshelf aquarium. The plastic became milky and the quality was not acceptable.
So I upgraded to 10 gallon tanks....

After a good bleaching (mixed with water) let them set in water for a couple of days. Then let them dry out good. Sniff them and if they still smell like bleach then they are not ready to be put back...
