I am new to fish keeping, and I hope to do the best that I can for my pet fish - they depend on me.

Aquarium 1:

Ten gallon tank with tropical freshwater fish. With power filter, 50 watt heater, lots of artificial plants, some live Hornwort and purple gravel. I have three mature Platy and three fry.

Aquarium 2:

Ten gallon tank - unsuccessfully tried to keep Dward Gouramis, but still have one Danio. She is holding the fort till I get a Betta - this is my work tank and a Betta will be less depentant on the filter should the power go out.

How I got started with aquariums.:

I have kept small furry critters for years and decided to try something more challenging. I started with a two gallon (learning later that larger starter aquariums are better for beginners). I lost my first two fish due to a problem with an outlet that caused the aerator to stop working (which also powered my undergravel filter). I believe that my poor guys suffocated.

None on purpose. My Mystery Snail produced some young with five survivors. And now my Platys have bred.

Why I like fish::

They are fun to watch and can/must be kept in their own environment.
