How I got started with aquariums.:
Goldfish when younger and Oscars when I was 16. Been doing South American Cichlids for 12 years now.

Fun to watch and very interesting.
Best advice:
Do your research first then buy your tank. Stay away from Wal-mart. Go to your local fish store. They are way more educated in fish keeping and you won't kill as many fish uneedlessly.
