This is my first time here on the AC forum and I just wanted to introduce myself! I have not yet started my freshwater aquarium...I wanted to look at resources here and in a few books before I start to minimize issues. I do have a small 2.5 gal tank with a half moon betta though. Having him and seeing my husband raise his saltwater tank has given me the bug to start my own freshwater community tank! I am planning on going with a 29-40 gal cube aquarium, planted, with cory cats definitely but I haven't decided what else I will be putting in the tank yet. I like the idea of hatchetfish or some gouramis. A lot of time and a couple of moves later and I've picked myself up a 10g. Going to be starting the cycling process soon, have it sitting with substrate and water right now. I'm from the Pacific Northwest, and am a university student. I'm somewhat new to the hobby, but am advancing very quickly. I currently own a 72 gallon bowfront aquarium; it's completely cycled and currently has 9 Colombian tetra, 8 corys, and an albino bristlenose pleco. The tank is heavily planted and has several pieces of driftwood, with plenty of hiding places.

3 weeks ago...started the water process, got everything put in. Gravel...check, decorations...check, Eheim 2217...check, 300watt heater..check. Water...check.

1 week passed...
Added 5 Red Mickey Mouse Platys...1 weeks time elapsed...all things going good.

Week 2
Added 4 more fish...1 Ballon Molly, 2 Sunburst Platys, 1 Blue Mickey Mouse Platy.

Week 3
Disaster strikes on day 2 of new fish...1 Sunburst Molly has ICH (Named her Broketail) ...deceased.

Since, I have raised water temp to 87°F & added 15 tablespoons of aquarium salt...Now on day 3 of recovery process...

Thats my intro story.

I'm thinking about getting into aquariums again, and Cyberra pointed me in this direction. :) I've had an aquarium a couple times in the past (oh boy, do I cringe at what my parents set up for me when I was in kindergarten!), but I still consider myself a raw beginner.

I have a couple tanks and some equipment (a maybe-5 gal hex tank with bottom lighting from when I was little, and a much more recent purchase of a bow-front 5 gal that has a built-in filter, and I have a grow light, heater, and thermometer for). As I get money and materials, I want to eventually set these both up as planted betta tanks. The bow front will be easier, since it needs less cleaning and equipment, and has a better lid for it.

I actually did major research the last time I had an aquarium (when I got and set up the bow front the first time), so there are some tidbits of knowledge still stuck in my brain. Not too much to spare in the budget area, but I'll be watching CL and FB forums - nothing close to me, but it might be worth the drive for the right product. No pet stores anywhere near.

I spent a few years with a pool using a drop kit (versus cheapo, inaccurate test strips) and adjusted all my levels using household products like bleach and muriatic acid, so I am quite familiar with daily water testing and making adjustments. (And then being able to learn my water and predict its behavior well enough that testing could be reduced to a few times a week.) Our current water is hard and the pH always rose in the pool. Well water. The other house is about 5 miles away on a well and I am assuming conditions will be similar, although it will be something to test for.

I would like a 55g tank if I can find one I can afford. i have a 55 gallon tank with one severum, one jack dempsey, 2 firemouths, and a blue guarmi.
im having some issues right now with a stubborn case of ich, hole in the head, and a pos filter that doesnt seem to be working right.
ich went away and came back, so i guess it never went away, just hid for a while.
hole in the head is on its way out... hopefully, been doing everything, its looking a lot better
