How Many German Blue Rams in a 55?

This is for a 55 gallon tank, going almost three years now.

I did a lot of searching before I decided to get some German Blue Rams, and it seems that most people just keep one pair. But some people recommended a harem. So after a lot of deliberation, I decided to try to get one male and three females.

I've had them three days now, and I think one of the females is dead, because I can only find the male and two of the females at any given time. One of the females is always close to the male, so I think they have paired up. The other female follows them around, but at a distance. Or else just stays alone. She seems kind of lonely, so I'm wondering if it would be better to get another female to keep her company. I think introducing another male could cause problems with the male I already have. So I would rather have spare females instead of two male/female pairs.

But I haven't really been able to find threads that address this, so what do you guys think? Perhaps she is better off just being a loner.

(Oh, and the other inhabitants of the tank are 3 Angelfish, 1 Upside Down Catfish, and 12 Black Neon Tetras.)

Got my GBR's less than 2 weeks ago, they settled in surprisingly quick, eating like oscars on day one and flashing bright blues within just a few days. Today after school I look just before feeding and to my surprise, theyre laying eggs! :ssuprised: Well, I hate to say, I would be quite surprised if the eggs were still there tomorrow when I get back from school. Ill Go ahead and ask anyway, anything I can do to save the eggs? I know the parents will guard them, but I have hungry corries and a big, hungrier, pleco... I did intend on breeding these guys eventually but this happed too soon. Other tank mates are, 2 adult angelfish, and 2 silver dollars. Believe it or not, the angelfish do get along in this 55 gallon aquarium, im quite sure theyre both males, and very big, haha (theyve been together for at least 3 years, maybe more than 4). Nobody bothers anybody, if anything, the GBR's are ruling all right now. The only other aquarium I have set up right now is an experimental 2.5 gallon planted tank with ghost shrimp.

Extra info: Paramaters check out ok, nitrates a little high but not too bad, working on that. Im not new to fishkeeping, or breeding, Ive bred angelfish before but had a dedicated aquarium and was ready for spawns.

They remind me of electric blue jacks I loved and they stay small I really want one; my LFS can't get them so I'd have to order online. MY sig says all you need to know its very heavy on driftwood; plants and I have black pvc caves if needed. The tanks been going 4 months about and I have a lot of experience with bigger cichlids and harder to care for blue jacks.

He would be the centerpiece of my tank so my question is do I want a wild caught? I tend to prefer breeders selling home bred are there any? I also read about them giving them hormones etc which I detest. Does anyone know a solid supplier of home grown ones? or is it mostly wild caught :/

I planned to get more tetras but when I saw these I was awe stuck I'm not worried about biomass or filtration ( I turn the tank over 20 times an hour 2 jebos and a an emp 400) I also change half the water twice a week. Also half the tank has a moderate current and the other has next to none with how it is setup.

I got the baby BN so far so good but most likely he will be going back when he gets bigger so that opens up some more room as well.

I'm willing to pay the price for the right fish I can only have a 29g so I want the best.
