Hello All,

Due to my sudden and unexpected illness, the care of my 7 inch Jack Dempsey was turned-over to someone who knew nothing about Jack's care except feeding. Several days after my return from the hospital, I found that Jack wasn't eating. A quick water check indicated extremely high nitrate levels. Over the week, I've directed several water changes and substrate cleanings and finally have the water back to acceptable readings for everything. The problem is Jack still won' t eat ! I'm wondering what else I can do as I am afraid I'm going to lose him. I've offered him his regular food, flakes, and even live feeder fish. I'm noticing some dull charcoal-colored patches on his sides. Does anyone have some suggestions?

75 Gallon New world cichlid stocking questions.

I have a 55 gallon and I am about to upgrade it to what I believe is a 75 or close to that. Right now I have 1 Convict 1 Firemouth 1 Jack Dempsey which is still young about 4 inches and 1 Green Terror which is still a baby at 1 inch. I know that my stocking is horrible but I inherited it and I am trying to make these fish happy.

Right now the only thing that seems off is that the JD hangs out around the top corner and sometimes the fish seem a little stressed. I was hoping to lose as few of these fish as possible and also hoping to add something like a Blue Acara, or a Thread Fin Geophagus. I take good care of the fish as far as the water quality goes.

Which fish should I take out and can I add any fish?

Would these little fella's outrun my angel and severum? I saw these at the LFS and thought they would look cool in my 150- thinking that 20ish would look outstanding. Not trying to feed the other fish though. The tank mates that I'm worried about are the severum and the angel and my 2 iridescent sharks (still under 5 inches long and they are only temporary, as they get enormous). Everyone else will be fine with them.

I have a 5" turquoise severum in a 65 gallon and am in need of some new tankmates for him. I'm really interested in keeping the tank with a South American theme and would prefer to have one more moderate sized fish, dither fish, and some bottom feeders or a Pleco. My severum seems to have a good temperament at this point and I'm prepared to rehome any fish I add that don't work. I'm really interested in something with color different from my severum that stands out against my black background. Here are fish I've been interested in adding as a secondary moderate sized fish. Let me know your thoughts and suggestions.

Note, this list is fish I am interested in. This list is not referring to what I want to stock in my tank all together...

Convict (have heard they can be aggressive)
Blue Acara (not sure how much color will differ from my severum)
Gold severum (might be cool to add another if the tank is big enough)
Angelfish (will an angelfish be OK solo?)
Festivum (not wowed by their color)
Jack Dempsey (I think they may get too big)
Green terror
Gold/blue ram (concerned with sensitivity)
Fire mouth

Hi!

I get a lot of conflicting info on the web about Severums, so I decided to ask here: Does anyone own or have experience with grown Severums with small fish like cardinals? On the one side I read they will eat them, on the other side that they can be kept together. I love them but I do not want them to feast on my shoals...
