So with the failure of my older tank, I was planning on getting a bigger one (50 gallons) as I've heard they're 1. Easier to take care of and 2. I just want a wider variety of fish.

So if I do end up being able to convince my mom, I want to be prepared.

I really want some Angelfish (I was thinking 2.) However I learned that they need a taller tank because of their fins. I was looking on petsmart and I found a tank/hood combo with the dimensions of 48 1/4"L x 12 3/4"W x 20"H. Would this be okay to house 2 angels? Or would I need to get a taller one?

I also learned that they struggle with fish compatibility. So I'm just going to list what I'm PLANNING on getting.

-2 Angelfish
-4 Black Molly
-3 Silver Hatchetfish
-5 Jumbo Neon Tetra
-1 Mystery Snail.

Now I know most of these are community fish besides the Angels, do you think they would eat any of them?

Sorry for all the questions, just don't want this to end badly!

56 Gallon Community Tank. What do I put in it?!

I upgraded my tank to a 56 gallon from a 40 and moved my 8 Cherry Barbs and Bristlenose Pleco in there. Unfortunately those little guys had to go through the cycling process of the new tank but they all survived and are in good health surprisingly! It finished cycling a few weeks ago and I added 8 Longfin Leopard Danios yesterday. I thought they would school separately but the Barbs and Danios seem to school together.

My tank looks a little empty despite the 17 fish. Because they're smaller it makes it look like there is a lot of space.

I would like to get another type of fish, preferably bigger but not so big that it will eat my little fishies. Any suggestions on what would work best for them? I thought about Gouramis but I've heard they wouldn't do well with my current selection.

I have time to decide because I want to make sure there are no spikes and what not from just adding all those Danios before I put anything else in there. :D

I have been doing some reading but my main choice of fish has always been neon tetras (childhood thing). let me say now, I would rather have neons over cardinals but can change if required. I have read in a few places that they prefer soft water with a low PH. I have always thought of them to be quite hardy? I know my water is about a medium hardness. Once i do a water change i will check my PH. Clearly i don't wish to start messing with the PH or hardness so I wondered if anyone has had any problems/advice?

I would really like to fill the tank with mainly Neons. I was wondering how many can I reasonable fit in a well planted tank with a large piece of mangrove (see my other post for a photo, ill put a new one up when i get a chance)?

Also i was looking at something to go with them. I would really love a betta to add a big splash of colour. I have seen a few examples of them together on line but wanted to ask just in case.

I had one last thing eyed up. Maybe some kind of Shrimp to add another splash of colour. I have read in a few places that small ones can often be preyed upon by the betta. Has anyone got any good types which might fit in?

Thanks again everyone for helping me get this far. I hope to gain some new experience and start to give back to the community very soon.

500l / 132gallon Community Tank - Compatable fish

Hi All!

My first post... Please be patient? (blush)

Ok, so I currently have a 60l / 16gallon tank with:
- 6 x Rummynoses
- 6 x Cardinals
- 3 x Kuhlis
- Lots of plants

I am getting a 500l tank tomorrow from a very seasoned fish-keeper, with 2 x Parrots in. I am giving the Parrots to a friend of mine that already has a few of them.

What I would like to do is the following:
- 12 x Rummynoses
- 12 x Cardinals
- 6 x Kuhlis
- 12 x Cherry Shrimp
- 2 x African Dwarf Frogs (if they are legal in Namibia - still waiting on the verdict)

Apart from those ones, I need a bit of help...

I am looking for larger fish (about 15cm / 6 inches in size) that I can get in pairs that will not eat my small shoaling fish. It needs to be focal fishes (if that makes sense).

I looked at Discus - they are my favorite to date, but seeing as I am not a very seasoned fish-keeper, I am afraid to get them. I have heard that they are very expensive and die for nothing...

I also looked and Bolivian and German Blue Rams, but, although they are SUPER beautiful, I am afraid they will not have enough of an impact in that size tank. They are about 8cm / 3 inches.

So... To post the question: What bigger fish can I place with my teeny-tiny-fishes?

:thankyouyellow:

I have a 100L/26g peaceful freshwater community tank with an external and internal filter 500L/hr and 400L/hr respectively and an adjustable heater. It has a brown sand substrate, all artificial plants apart from a bunch of java moss growing on top of a cave and a floating Ceratopteris siliquosa. It has planty of hiding spaces and some driftwood.

At the moment it has 16 neon tetra, 6 three-lined corydoras, and 10 red cherry shrimp. I would like to finish my stocking off with one or more bigger fish, that obviously will get on with the other tank mates. any ideas or suggestions?

i thought about a honey gourami, thoughts on this?

i know i am fairly close to fully stocked but i would like something bigger in there if possible.

I have 7 ember tetras in a ten gallon with some plants, sand, 2 amano shrimp and ghost shrimp. I plan on getting more, like around 13 or so total. What else can I put in with them? I'm thinking about more shrimp (cherry shrimp specifically), a scarlet gem badis or pygmy gourami, even pygmy loaches, or killifish. Are these good ideas? Do not be afraid to point out flaws. Also I am looking for ways to guard the intake of my filter if I do get cherrys, so if anyone has any ideas there that would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hello all,

Last christmas my girlfriend bought me a small fish tank as my first tank. After reading up i decided to upgrade to a 100L/26g tank which i now happily have some neon tetras, three lined corys, and RCS in.

I am wondering if i can use the small 1.5g tank for anything that will not cramp it? is it too small to house any aquatic animal and keep it comfortable?

My LFS has a yellow strain of RCS and i thought about that? any other suggestions?

it will have small gravel in it, a couple small artificial plants with some java moss too. It has a small internal filter that came with it and a heater tuned to 26C/79F. pH is 7.4.

I was hoping to get some more information on this selection on fish. I have been unable to find much on some of them. for example over all size they will reach, if they are a good mix. I understand I will have to get a bigger tank asap for the hole tank to stay together.

Hi. Another nube here. We had two 55g tanks. One had 5 tiger barbs. The other had 3 BA tetras and 3 black skirt tetras. We are putting in new floors (a DIY job) and it is going to take a good 3 weeks to get them finished due to work and school schedules. Anyway, we broke down the tank with the tiger barbs and put those in the tank with the tetras. At least one of the tigers is nipping at a black skirt and there is a nice little bite mark missing from his tail.

Is there any way to temporarily divide the tank to keep the tigers away from the tetras?

We were planning on just running one tank after the floors are done. But I may have to look at other options.

Thx
