I was rereading an old TFH the other day, and saw something disturbing. Apparently, rams farmed in the Orient are injected with hormones to make them color up early. Shortens their lives.
Explains why several users report losing rams after a short time for an unknown reason.

As far as the asian breeders go, mainly it is about the money for them. If the fish are more colorful, they will sell more and thus make more money. They do not understand why we get upset over fish. There is a distinct cultural difference.
