Safe wood

I found a small log half buried in the ground the other day. It came off a small pine-like tree in our yard. Is it safe for my aquarium?
it looks like it has been dead for years, but I'm not sure. It also had a lot of dirt on it. I have been soaking it for a few days now, and the water does not turn yellow any more.

I'm not sure if it's safe. But I read (on this forum) that you can put it on hot water so it would not tint your water (like a brown).

If it is from a pine type tree I would be concerned about the pine tar that may still be in the wood.

Yes. There might also be roblems with fungus if you found it on land. It is better to try and find a piece of wood that allready have been submerged in water for a few years.
