Hello from San Diego! My husband had an aquarium when we first got married (26 years ago) for a few years until all the fish died when we were on vacation. My husband was heart broken because he had the fish for so long before we got married. I never had anything to do with it so I'm totally dumb when it comes to anything to do with them.
We have just ordered a new aquarium (starphire on three sides) 36 x 18 x 30 (approximately 80 gallons) and hope to get it in a couple of weeks along with an aquarium stand. We are already getting things for the aquarium, a few pieces of really colorful glass rocks, samples of gravel from our local rock yard to see what kind would look best. We also ordered an Eheim 2028 filter today and a few decorations.
We are really looking forward to starting this.
Does anyone have a starphire aquarium? Any suggestions on any other important items?
Looking forward to learning a lot more about this hobbie.

Greetings!!! Welcome to AC. I have not heard of that brand of tank before do you have a link or something for a website?

I know the manufacturer is in Canada. Apparently the Starphire glass has less iron in it and is extremely clear. We just did a google search under Starphire and came up with a few sites, one of which is Glasscages.com. They show the difference between Starphire glass and regular glass. Starphire is as clear as acrylic but more expensive. We ordered our tank through our local store and they knew about Starphire but it is a custom built aquarium because of the size and using the Starphire glass.

Cool, I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the info. What sort of tank are you planning? Fresh or Salty?

We are going all fresh water, easier to maintain. Haven't decided on what fish to get yet. Once we get the tank all set up and running, then it's off to the fish store to make our big decision.

Well the type of fish will dicate the type of decorations. Kinda...

You can always do a type of tank that has cool sunken ships, and skeletons, and....

Or you can go with a natural biotope.

Or you can just go with a bare bottom tank... nah, you could do a.....

(The options are infinate, the only limitation is your imagination.)

Have FUN!!!!

Its an optically clear glass, CAF. They do it to compete with the light transmission clarity of an acrylic tank.

Thanks, I'm always on the lookout for new companies and goodies. In addition to being the VP, I'm also the auctions chair, so I get to ask for donations to the club alot.
