a friend of mine has a 265gal south american catfish tank. in it she has 6 otos 18 cories of various types and a pleco. she has recently relized all her fish are bottom feeders and wants a south american fish that "swims around". any tips? also, she wants something under 8in

I know what I would get if I had a 265g, AROWANA time. Maybe a lima shovel nose? Most catfish are bottom feeders.

If the tank isn't planted (with real plants) I'd say a school of two dozen of the larger silver dollars, like red hook mets (Myleus rubripinnis). They reach a bit over five inches.

True. A South American FISH, I thought they meant catfish, sorry about that. How about a severum?

I usually only reach 8" in the home aquarium.

You'd need a larger tank; twice as big as the one you have, for them to reach 12 inches.

Carnivores but they won't eat your corys. I am iffy on the ottos though, mine won't but all fish are different. Mine also eats vegetable matter.
