I have read that a tank must be set up at least 8 months before adding an anenome to it. Is this true? If not, what kind could I put in that 24 gallon aqua pod that a percula might host?

anenomes are most difficult to keep, as they need perfect NSW, zero ammonia/nitrite/nitrate and full spectrum, intense, light.
It's difficult if not impossible to maintane proper environs for an anenome in a tank that small.

i agree with dave. its hard to keep tanks under 55g well enough to accommodate a anemone. just stick to corals

ok so if I dont provide an anenome, will my clown be miserable for its whole life?

no...it shouldn't by my understanding....the anamone is only for protection.

Most clowns will never host in an anemone, even if one is present. It will be fine.

Also, keep in mind most anemones are aggressive and can have very long stinger things.

I had a reef tank with a pair of ocellaris clowns. There was also 5 bubble tip anemones in the tank (splits). They never once hosted in any of them! Instead, they preferred: a powerhead, a small colony of majano anemones (which were eventually removed), a maxima clam, and a clay flowerpot. They laid eggs on occasion, but never near any of the BTA's....silly clowns! :c10:

I wish I had my LTA still but I tried one in my 30g salt and it don't work out to well, I had a pair of tomatoes clowns hosting it and everything and it died, wasn't my tank though I don't think as more the pet store about killed it anyways. Considered some of the corals like frog spawn, they may host it.

+1
Also look at torches and hammers. All three have very similar requirements, so you can just choose the one that you feel is the most attractive. I liked the look of torches the most, but I ended up with frogspawn simply because I could get a really nice, healthy frag for $15.
I have also heard of clowns taking to hairy mushrooms.
For the record, I have 3 hairy mushrooms and a frogspawn, and my clowns host my minijet 404.:c11:

Euphyllia species have some of the strongest stings there are, more than many anenomes. Handle them very carefully, and they have been known to kill clownfish.
