Ok, so last night, I filled up my tank with gas, and I calculated my MPG, and i only get 17. So I thought, maybe my injectors are dirty. So I went to walmart tonight to get some fuel injector cleaner. I also picked up a 3-pack of Octane Booster, new spark plugs, and a new set of SAE wrenches, seeing as about 1/3 of my other set are MIA.
I get to the checkout, and, you guessed it, "Im sorry sir, you must be 18 to purchase these items" I said "are you kidding me?" "no, I cant sell them to you". So, this kinda set me off. The manager happened to be walking by taking excess money from the regsters, so when he came over I asked him why I am not able to buy these items. He told me "This stuff is flammable, and its not smart to sell it to minors", to which I countered "Gasoline is flammable, and there is no age limit for that. In fact, at walmart, you only have to be 16 to purchase a knife, which is exponetially more dangerous than a few boosters and some injector cleaner". Then he said "Im sorry sir, I just can sell you these items". Then I said, "Well then I am sorry sir, I guess you cant these items to me either", and I left the plugs and wrenches and walked out of the store, and went down the street to ACE hardware, and got what I needed there.
So far, ive been restricted from buying fuel injector cleaner, octane booster, spray paint, the fitting for the end of a Butane solder torch, And one other thing that escapes me right now.
I hate Walmart.

I couldn't even get an arrow for my bow there. I was going to get broadheads but I was apparently under age.

That sucks man sorry to hear about that. Do you know what really gets me fired up over here. I have been into stores to get a few bits and pieces before and they wouldnt let me get them because of my age namely spray paint. I can understand why with the likes of spray paint as people go out and put thier grafiti all over the place. Injector cleaner and Octane booster though!? WTF is up with that????
The part the gets me mad though is they refuse to sell you these things at certain stores but I still remember walking into Dairy's around here and buying ciggarettes when i was 16 with no mention of ID. yet you cant get flamable items

Thats what bothers me. Its not like Walmart has some sort of social qualm against selling things like this to people. If they REALLY cared, maybe they would clean up their act in the aquatics department.
I am going to send walmart an email about this right now. Last time i did, it was about their aquatics department, and how poorly it was/is taken care of. Some lady called me and insisted that their conditions are even better than the conditions in a home aquarium...I called MAJOR BS on that one, and she hung up. Denial only supports the truth.

man, youre lucky they do that, but not for car parts. here some stores are corrupt and sell lighters and cigarettes to obvious minors. the kwik-e-marts are strict about it though

the only thing i like about my wal-mart is the prices. they always have filters and equipment on sale, and if you find a 10g starter set or larger cheaper than theirs, they'll beat it by 10%. they always have meds on sale too

I went in at like 12:30 in the morning, to see if I would still get carded. The guy scans it, the prompter says "IS CUSTOMER 18 <Y/N>". He looked at me or a sec, and said, "That'll be $4.71"'

First of all, you scared me right off when you said:
I filled up my tank with gas
I'm thinking what in H*** would he put gas in his fish tank for. LOLOLOL
Unfortunately, Drum, with all these stupid "sniffers" out there in the world, and lawsuits and deaths and what-not, these big stores have had to protect themselves from these kids who want to use these products for what is not intended. They have made it hard on all those who don't want to abuse these products.
Even as adults, we can't buy many of the sinus meds without signing for them and them being sold behind locked doors. I'm surprised we can still buy hair spray since it contains lacquer.
Why there is a certain element in our society that wants to walk around with brain damage defuddles me. I worked in a convenience store and we had to also remove these items from shelves along with vicks vapor rub!

"There are too many stupid people in this world. I say we take the warning labels off everything and let the problem solve itself. "
I cant remember who said that, but it sure fits in at a time like this.
So basically we have this:
Wal-Mart "Management":We dont want your parents to sue if you die huffing this stuff, because anyone who shops here is just the kind of dope who would do such.
Wal-Mart "Employees":Go away, the company says I dont have to like you.

I don't think it's Walmarts law, tho. I think it's Federal. Ace is probably the one not in compliance. Not sure on this, of course.
Too bad some young people are so bloody bored they want to do this stuff. I guess they could go to Iraq if they were really bored. Ya, right!

Another example of the minority stuffing it up for everyone else, there are similar laws over here to, eg. spray paint can not be sold to under 18's, and must be stored in a locked display case in the store.
What amuses me here is, don't you work in a gun shop, selling ammo, and you are into firearms, so I am guessing you can buy ammo etc, but when your car is not running right, you cannot buy fuel treatment.

Yeah, it is kind of weird isnt it?

LOL, thats the way governments work all over the world.
In your case, you are mature enough to hunt and sell amunition and firearms, but not mature enough to open the lid and poor a bottle of flammable liquid into your fuel tank.

Technically, its not legal for me to buy firearms and ammunition, but, in my line of work, its pretty much a free pass to buy them.

Lol thats pretty sweet. In my line of work i basically get to ride other peoples bikes all day lmao...
You would have to be at least 18 over here to sell ammo and guns. you can work behind a bar when your 17 but not serving alcohol.

here in small towns a minor can buy guns and ammo but in big towns (Edmonton, Calgary, etc) you have to be over 18.
here small towns will forgive anything, a 13 year old can even drive a car if hes safe. my motorcycle isnt actually licensed and i drive it, cops dont care. i havent bothered to get a license

When I bartended at the American Legion, we had young men coming in all the time from the Gulf War not yet 21. I obviously, according to law, was not allowed to serve them but believe me, if they had their service card, they got their beer. I didn't care. These guys can fight for their country but be denied a drink on leave? ppttfff!

Bingo, we have a winner!
It's not so much Wal Mart's fault, it's societies and our ever growing quest to "protect" ourselves from everything (this trend is much more promienent in North America than elsewhere). Wal Mart is just covering their own ass. If your state has a law prohibiting the sales of certain products to certain age groups, it's not the stores fault for not selling you the product, it's the law makers fault for threatining the stores with hefty fines if they do sell the products to minors and it's the fault of the nosey person behind you in the check out line for not minding her own business and reporting the store to the authorites.
It's a sad, sad world we live in these days.
On a happier note, there was a store in the UK somewhere who employed a local clown to entertain the children in front of the store. He made ballon animals and big bubbles and such. However, the stores lawyers and liablity "tactical force" said that he can no longer make ballon animals because some children may be allgergic to the latex in the ballons. And the bubbles he made? Well, sorry, the soap water could land on the ground, causing a child to slip, fall and injure themselves.
