I have an Aponogeton bulb that has been growing quite well. One of the stems has grown up to the top of the tank (well a few of them have but most have leaves on them) and seems to have a flower type thing growing off of it? I attached a few pictures. First one is the flower part, and second is just underwater view, the one sticking up is the flower.
Do I trim this so that the plant doesn't expend all of its energy/nutrients to making a flower that I probably won't even see under the hood or do I let it grow?
Seems like most other threads talk about trimming the flowering stem, also where should I cut it? Right below the flower or do I cut that stem at the bottom near the bulb/roots?

Trimming or letting it grow is up to you. The flower of the plant is its reproductive parts. (Where the pollen and the seeds are)
If you trim it then it will no longer be offering its pollen-y bits a bit earlier than if you let it just die off. However, if you like looking at the flower.. there isn't really a harm in leaving it while its healthy.
The closer you can trim that flower stalk to where it branches out from the main part of the plant the better. That stalks sole purpose is to support the flower, and if there is no flower.. well the plant is still spending some energy on a stalk that isn't serving its purpose.

Yes keeping it from flowering will make the main plant last longer before it goes dormant. In aquarium situations dormancy usually means the loss of the plant due to a proper dormancy is difficult to provide in home tanks.

Cool both of those replies kind of confirmed what I was thinking, thank you for the help.
If I let the flower continue to grow is it possible to get new plants from it to take the place of the original that would go dormant? Or does it need the female and male parts for the pollen to take? I have a basic understanding of terrestrial plants but not very much of aquatics. I'm assuming that there are some similarities though.

I have some of those and was curious about that myself . I've posted some pics in this same forum and they came out fairly decent , Tell me what you think . Yours must be younger than mine , the flowers get fairly long and they are quite cute I think I may let mine wither before I trim the stalks . What are you gonna' do with yours?
