View Full Version : when do I remove the convict fry?

6 days ago I noticed some small fry free-swimming around mommy's cave. Both parents are just as diligent as you always hear and it's incredible watching them with the babies. The babies are eating crushed flake food. Both parents are black but half the babies are pink and the other half black as well. I'm attaching some supercute pics. But can anyone tell me how big the babies should get before I can move them out of the tank?

I would remove them at 0.75 to 1 inch long. Congrats!

Cute babies, and very well developed. :22:
I would leave them with their parents as already written, till they are about one cm, maybe a bit more.

I have seen parents turn on eachother and the babies at only a week or so after the babies get into free swimming stage, so I would remove the parents now.

Wow! Thanks for the help. Right now they seem to be doing great so I'll just keep a close eye on them. I didn't realize the parents could turn so early on though so thanks for the heads up. I'll have to post some more pics as they grow up.
