How often do you change substrate

I have a live planted 30 gal aquarium and was wondering how often you change the substrate. I have 2 bags of Eco Compl. Planted Aq. Substrate 20 lb (Carib Sea). in right now for about 1.5 months Thanks in advance.

why do you need to change it??

some of my gravel and sand is over 30 years old.

and i am still using it.

are you talking about bottom or fiölter substrate?

I don't think you should have to change the substrate. It's like setting up your aquarium again, having to take the fish out and redecorate it. If you have only ben using it for 1.5 months, it should still have plenty of nutrients in it. That's just my opinion, you should listen to William and not me
