View Full Version : trying to cycle a hospital tank.

got a little 3 gallon hospital tank Im trying to cycle. can someone tell me if this is the right smonia i got from walmart. It say clear amonia and the ingredients are amonia hydroxide and surfucants... is it safe for me to put this into to the tank to cycle.. thank you in advance...

No, you do not want any surfucants in the ammonia.

If your main tank is healthy right now and you are not in a hurry you could try seeding your hospital from gravel and filter media from the main tank. That is if you can't find pure ammonia. I think Ace hardware Janitorial Strength is pure if you can find an Ace nearby.

You'll still need ammonia to add to the tank to establish the filter. Without ammonia the bacteria in the gravel will die off.

No surfactants as already stated. You want straight ammonia.

A good place to check for ammonia is Hardware stores. "Ace Hardware" carries it sold as "Janatorial Strength", and it comes in a red bottle.
