Hi, I'm Jordan. I'm completely new to this, but I've got my very first aquarium set up and am 1 week into the cycling. It's a 10 gallon, with two 10 watt fluorescent lights (hopefully good enough for basic plants if I decide on that in the future). I've got some fake plants in right now, along with 3 long finned black tetra that were just given to me for free at the pet store (yes, I'm doing a fish in cycle and I know that many people are against that).
I've learned a lot from this site, and I look forward to learning more.

Here's the aquarium and the gang. I've got the Aquaclear 20 which I hear is a nice filter. Don't think I need a heater as the temperature fluctuates between 72 and 80 from day to night, but maybe I'm wrong.
The fish switch off between being friendly with each other and then squabbling over territories. They're slowly becomming more friendly though.
Goes to 11!

You do need a heater as temp consistency is an important aspect of the stability of their environment. Instability leads to stress which can make them vulnerable to other health issues.

I agree with 850R. 8 degree swings are kinda pushing it. If you get a heater you can set it at 76-78 and be fine!

I've got a heater set up in it now. It's the Hagen Elite Submersible Mini Preset Heater 50W. Temp doesnt get lower than 76 now.
