Pencil Urchin Losing Spines????

One of the smaller urchins is losing it's spines....any idea why? I've checked all the levels and we're good with a standing temp of 80 degrees, PH of 8.4 and everything else is 0.

Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner....

How is the urchin now?
My main thought is how the urchin was acclimated to your tank...animals like urchins and starfish are very, very sensitive to changes in salinity. If not acclimated properly, they will basically disintegrate.

He's gone. Thanks anyway...the other two survived and seem fine. We think that the water was too hot, we had it running a steady 80 and our clown fish were acting weird, so we turned the heater down to about 78 and everyone seems much happier!
