I'm thinking about an Angel tank, but I'm not interested in breeding Angels, and I want a peaceful tank. Am I asking for too much? Am I being realistic? Is it possible? Or should I just resolve myself to having one or two? Thanks.

How big of tank are you planning on?
Usually you can only do a pair or 2.

I have a 55 gallon tank.

Well you could get a couple 4 and then if they pair off and spawn then you can scrap the eggs of so that they don't hatch.

You may be able to do 2 pairs, hopefully Lady Hobbs can come on and give you some ideas.

The book i have suggests 7 for a 55g. If they're in a large group they'res less aggression.

yeah i would get about 6 (even #) let them pair off and like you don't have to let the eggs hatch but if they do...the parents will probably eat them and if the fry grow then you can just sell them.

Most of forums I've read suggest ten gallons for each adult angelfish. So, I would like to have 5 or 6 angels.

What happens to the eggs? Will they get eaten or should I get rid of them when changing the water?

How do you keep eggs from hatching?

If they do pair off, won't they constantly fight every time they breed? Thanks for your replies.

You just scrape the eggs off wherever they lay them and throw them out...

I had the same thoughts and got 9. I now have them separated into 4 tanks. They don't get along.

And I thought this was going to be easy! Hey, I think I'll get a tank and some nice fish!

Lol, I don't recommend an angel only tank unless you got like a 120g and maybe 12 would work. I have a pair in my tank that I like but I wouldn't want only angels.

I thought a nice tank of angels would be great. What a huge joke that turned into. I can't even keep 3 in my 55 without one getting into trouble. I've decided they just aren't the smartest fish around. You'd think when others chase them back a couple hundred times they'd stay in their own territory. Nope. They just have to try to constantly try to sneak into the territory of the others.

If fish could just get along how nice it would be, huh? I would love a whole tank of all colored betta's. That would be a sight but their nasty attitudes make that impossible.

I agree on a tank of bettas, I would loooove to have one of those. Except your right, they make it impossible.

Dev once said that if you got 6 angels as juvies they WILL grow, pair up and get along...Maybe i misread what he said..hell probably post soon.

I think he said that also P, but they will probably fight for a while to figure out who the head hancho is and then it should be fine if you get them young.

Didn't work for me and I had 7 juvies. You always have your alpha male and alpha female that will boss all the others in the tank. They are very territorial. Yea, they worked fine until they reached about 6 months but after that it was a no go.

I am thinking of trying to have all females in a tank. It's the mating and pairing up that causes all the fights so possibly the same sex together might work.

Let us know how it works out.
