So I had bad luck with my oto cat touching the algae wafers.....so while picking up another ammonia kit, I grabbed a small bag of Hikari sinking wafers (not the algae wafers) for catfish, loaches and other bottom feeders. The bag says that it doesn't dissolve or cloud the water and they're very small....so hopefully my lone oto will like it. I have been worried about him not getting enough to eat. picky eaters....ugh...lol

Provide a sinking wafer at night then turn off the lights. I'll bet it will be gone by morning.

Ohh....cool, i'll take out the one I put in about a 1/2 hr ago and drop another one in before I go to bed.

Since I only have the 1 oto right now, should I just add one in every other night? I don't want to over feed him or anything by putting one in everynight.

Every night, Megan. Otocinclus are browsers; the forage for food all the time.

good luck! i threw in some algae wafers in my tank, all the fish went nuts. the kuhlis, the clown loaches, the huge gourami, the severum, the pleco, the black shark, the killie (he dived and stole one), everyone

When I drop in weighted veggies to my bottom feeders, every fish in the tank hits them on the way down. . .

So I went back upstairs earlier to take the wafer out until tonight when I go to bed.....well too late, it was already half gone and the oto was still eating!! Yay!!

And it was the freakin cutest thing!!! The whole school of neons was hovering over the oto and the wafer and one of the neons kept chasing them all back if they would get too close to him. I sat there and watched for like 10minutes. It was so cute watching the neon protect the oto and his food!
Unless he was just thinking "Well when he's done I got first dibs on the leftovers!!!" hahahaha ;D
