Hey guys, just setting up a new 29g tank, and it is my first time.

So now I have to think about the heater. I was thinking 150w will be enough for a 29g tank or is it too much?

Also, I was looking at brands, and am deciding between an eheim jager 150w or a fluval m150. Which one is better?

Thanks

You cannot go wrong with the Eheim Jager...those things would be right there with roaches at the end of the world. I have heard good things about the new Fluval heaters tho. 150watt is plenty for a 29G.

Kudos to you for doing research :22:

Firstly, both brands are just as good as eachother in my opinion. Where I'm from, the Ehiem heaters are more expensive. But now that that's all said and done, you can buy a heater that costs $50, and a heater that costs you $100, and either one of them can malfunction at any time. I have an AquarWorld 300w heater on my 40g, and I've had that heater for 3 years, and It's still going strong. It keeps a nice stable temperature, and it cost me a grand total of $49.95. :hmm3grin2orange:

As for a good size for your 29g, I would go no smaller than 200w. I'd rather go bigger, so that the heater isn't working so hard. If your heater doesn't work so hard, it costs you less to run, and there's less risk of the heater malfunctioning because it's not constantly turning on and off, or staying on for longer periods of time. thumbs2:

Haha thanks. Yea I try to at least research my question before asking people, and got it down to these two heaters.

Thanks for the answer btw!

Hmm, the Fluval is a bit cheaper than the Eheim as I can get it on Amazon with prime, but I just want to make sure it is quality.

That's what things are like to buy in Australia. :hmm3grin2orange: A lot of the time, if you can find a place that has 300w Eheim heaters on sale, you can pick them up for about $75. Most of the time, they sell for about $100. And if you need a heater in a hurry, you go to wherever you can get one the fastest!

i really like my jager heater i have both the old ones and the new ones and i like them both. the new one is better tho. but i keep a few cheapy ebay oceanaqua on hand, i got 4 100W, 2 200w and a 300w for about 50$. im using a 100w in my 5.5g shrimp, and a 150w (i think) in my 20g guppy. all in all ive been using the 150 for about 6 months (with and without fish in the tank as it used to be my qt) and never had any problems.

basically im trying to say, if you are going to get any heater buy a back up or 2 just in case. nothing is worst than being 2 days from spending $ and a heater leaking voltage. if you save some $ off that purchase i would consider putting into cheapy emergency heaters

Decided to get the Jager.

Thanks for the comments guys.

The only thing that sucks is I'm leaving in a month anyways to college, I don't think it is worth setting up my tank yet
I'd have to start over then lol. At least I'm getting good deals on the equipment though :P

Is the jäger fully submersible I've been told it can't go past the water line? If I go with the fluvial in a 55 gallon which one should I get?

The Jager is fully submersible. They have to have lines for some canadian law.

Fluval also has the water lines.

Also I'd say a 200-250 watt heater should be fine in a 55 gallon, based on my research.
