Okay so the Penguin 200 itself is quiet...but holy cow it practically sprays the water out! The noise from the water is so loud! I read the instruction manual and there wasn't any kind of info about slowing anything (such as the water flow) down. I read the trouble shooting section and it said if noise is loud make sure the water is filled up far enough....well umm it would help if they actually said or showed how far the water is suppose to fill up. I had to pretty much guess. I dont want to fill it too far....ugh...I hope its not always gonna be this loud....

On the waterfall type filters, the only way to muffle the noise is to raise the tank's water level where the chute is partially submerged. Usually close to the top of the tank is sufficient.
Altenativley, you could silicone a plastic tongue on the outflow that would always be submerged.

I was going to raise the water level up higher, but I was afraid of it being too high....is that possible? I thought about the plastic tongue thing. That might work. I'll just have to play around with it I guess. I just don't want to hinder the filtration process by the water being too high.

Do you think I should take a pic to show where my water level is at the moment?

Okay I went back upstairs to mess with the water levels and filter a bit and when I went upstairs it actually sounded quieter than before. I re-read some of the instruction manual and at the bottom it said that when first starting the filter the bio-wheel is not fully absorbent, until after the break in period. I think that may have been part of problem then. I'll wait until after the 24-48 period and if its still loud i'll try to make some adjustments.

My AC filter was noisy for about a week! Then it quieted down and I can't even hear it now apart from the water falling. I bet your filter will quiet down in a couple days or whenever the wheel gets totally soaked.
