View Full Version : What's wrong with my goldfish?

I have a small pond outside. I have had it for 10 years or more. This one goldfish (I think its a ryukin) is so round bodied that it's having a hard time swimming! It seems OK and it eats, but I have noticed just in the last few days, it hides under the lily pads and lets the food float to it. It avoids swimming because it has a hard time. I've been told everything from its pregnant to its sick. I know one of my fish had little ones last winter or maybe in the spring because there is a little one in there - I guess he hid until he got too big to eat! Do these fish have live little ones? The fish I am talking about is round bodied (normally - but not this big!) and it is orange with a double fan tail. I have had it quite a few years - its about a foot long from mouth to end of tail. Can anyone help me?

Could be bloat, dropsy, constipated, or just fat from over eating. Do the scales stick up like a pine cone? If you could post some pictures of the fish it would help diagnose.
