Sorry.....was gonna put this in the DIY section, but it wasn't letting me open up a new thread for some reason.

I see that you can use hot glue as an alternative to silicone?

I've got 2 questions about it.....

1. I have plenty of hot glue sticks, can you use any glue sticks (made for the hot glue gun) or does it have to be a specific, non-toxic type? I've never read the labels for the glue or anything.

2. Does hot glue work as well as silicone?

Hot glue might be ok on the outside but not on the inside. It won't hold up in the water.

There are aquarium epoxies that are non-toxic and cure underwater. I use it to secure live rock and make caves with.

Should work, just cure it for about 2 days before placing it in your tank. Well that is what I have always heard and I think my dad done it once.

I'm just thinking that I have a ton of hot glue sticks laying around for crafts that maybe I can get away with using that to glue some sand onto a pvc pipe, cause I want to make some caves that blend in with the sand for my 29 gal. But if it doesn't hold up with water, then maybe i should just get the silicone.
